A £1,000 rise in the annual cost of grocery shopping and double-digit energy bill rises have combined to push up the cost of living by 9% - and there's worse to come. We show you how to fight the soaring cost of living - and save thousands

Families face further crippling rises in the cost of living - well in excess of the official inflation rate of 3%. Energy watchdogs this week warned that domestic gas bills could rise by as much as £400 following a shareholder statement from British Gas's parent company Centrica. The rise would take the average yearly gas bill above £1,000.

Global food prices are up 40% and recent research from price comparison website Uswitch.com reveals that the average cost of day-to-day living has soared by 9% in the past 12 months. The research shows that householders have been hit in the pocket from every conceivable angle.

"Consumers have seen price hikes across all areas from energy to mortgages, right across to a 25% increase in the cost of petrol. This may be making many people feel that their finances are simply out of control," comments uSwitch spokesperson Ann Robinson.
